On Thursday 25 June 1981 two acts made their Top of the Pops: Kirsty MacColl with her single There's a Guy Works Down the Chip Shop Swears He's Elvis and Depeche Mode with their second single New Life.

24/06/81: For Your Eyes Only première in London

On Wednesday 24 June 1981 the Royal World Premiere of the latest James Bond film “For Your Eyes Only” was held at the Odeon Leicester Square Theatre in London.



The première was attended by Prince Charles and Lady Diana Spencer.

22/6/81: Mark Chapman pleads guilty


On Monday 22 June, 1981, Mark David Chapman pleaded guilty to the murder of John Lennon.

Chapman killed the former Beatle six months earlier and was sentenced to 20 years-to-life in prison.

He still remains behind bars to this day.
